Remote Assistance with Healthcare Associated Infection Surveillance

Every day, an average of one in 25 hospital patients around the United States contracts at least one healthcare associated infection (HAI), according to the CDC. HAIs range from pneumonia to surgical site infections to urinary tract infections. Approximately 75,000 people die each year from HAIs. Making sure that your healthcare facility is doing all it can to prevent the spread of infection has never been more important, both to insure patient health and to meet CMS guidelines so you can be fully reimbursed by Medicare.

Remote assistance with HAI surveillance

There are a couple of ways that an outside agency, such as Infection Control Results can assess your health care facility's rate of healthcare associated infections (HAIs). We can review patient records remotely and determine, based on National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) criteria, whether a patient has a healthcare associated infection.

How remote Healthcare Associated Infection surveillance works

Our remote assistance requires your facility to give Infection Control Results access to your electronic medical records (EMRs)/electronic health records (EHRs). With this access, we can save your staff the time and effort necessary to make sure that you're compliant with all of the CMS and state-mandated healthcare associated infection reporting requirements. If you would like Infection Control Results to enter the information into NHSN, the process usually takes a few weeks to set up, as we need to wait for NHSN to give us sign-in credentials for your data once they've received your request for access.

We have a thorough understanding of the different CMS requirements for each type of health care facility as well as the various state requirements. Not only can we help your facility be confident that it is meeting these requirements, but will draw up a plan for improving your infection rates/standardized infection ratios (SIRs) so that you can not only keep your patients healthy, but also maximize your Medicare reimbursement.
